The softball camp organized by the softball club Prince began on June 16th. and finished on June 21th 2018. 32 children participated in the camp, along with three coaches – Lorena Orescanin, Damir Mandic and Tea Fleck, and two volunteers – Natalia Malarowska from Poland and Elisa Lizza from Italy.
Elisa and Natalia, who volunteer at the Erasmus + project, together with the our Juniors who volunteered at the camp, were preparing lunch tables, assisting in the field if needed, cleaning up and held order inside and outside the club house.
The first day started with the opening of the camp, getting acquainted with the new participants who were for the first time with us, setting camp rules and goals and some training. Every other day, the children had a practise twice a day, participated in various workshops, played some social games, free time for rest, secured lunch and snacks secured by our donators Dukat, Veronica and Atlantis, whom we thank as well as our sponsor Erste Bank.
As part of the Inclusion and Gender Equality through Softball (IGETS) and Equality in Sport projects, one day, the kids had workshops related to the topic of equality in sports. By the various methods themselves came to the knowledge that girls and boys are the same in the sport and they should be, in the end they wrote on the IGETS wall why they are equal and how they are equal!
On the camp , new acquaintances and friendships were born, children learned new things, not just about softball, but about teamwork, communion, support, and mutual equality. At the end of every day, kids were positively tired, but happilly leaving the camp and coming back the next morning with a smiles on their faces.
The last day of a camp, we organized a match with a teams in which kids were equally divided ( new children and children who have been training for some time). It’s a little to say that we all enjoyed watching the kids support eachother, cooperate and cheer . Eventually, no one cared for the result of the match, everybody was a winner.
We thank all parents, children, trainers and volunteers for making it possible and helping us organize yet another successful children’s camp.
